About Blog Kopitiam

Long time ago before StarBuck Coffee, Coffee Club Connection, Coffee & Tea Leaves and other franchise designer-style beverage outlets hit our shores here in Singapore, the most popular 'watering-hole' where people chill is the 'Kopitiam' (or coffee shop in Hokkien).

The young in-crowd these days seldom patronise the old-fashioned, coffee shops where the decor is plain, where the conversation is loud, and people do not have to whisper to one another to appear polite. There is no air-conditioning and the place is kept cool by whirring ceiling fans. The shopfront has a wide open entrance and is not intimadating to visitors.

Very few of these original, traditional 'kopitiam' could be found in Singapore nowadays. Perhaps they still could be seen in the more rustic villages and towns in Malaysia.

In Singapore, the 'kopitiams' have gone upmarket http://www.kopitiam.biz/kopitiam.htm

Other than the decor, layout and cosmetic changes of the outlets, are the 'kopitiam' of today similar to the 'kopitiam' of yesteryears?

How about a 'Virtual Kopitiam for Bloggers'; not the brick and mortar kind in real life?

This is a non-controversial blog site with the usual OBM (Out-of-Bound Markers): No sex, no religion, no politics, no MLM.

There are still lots of interesting things to talk about without these touchy thingy...

Just chit-chat like what people did in the 'kopitiam' of the good old days...informal, congenial and relaxing. There is no dress code. Wear whatever is comfortable...as long as your torso is covered with no indecent exposure ;)

Enjoy your 'Kopi-O'! Cheers!
